Hyper Appetite

by Jenn (j3nn.net) on July 7, 2009

I was like Miss Pac-Man today, I insatiably munched and munched and munched. I’m pretty sure the 3 hours of exercise had something to do with it, but I woke up ravenous and it didn’t get any better by the end of the day. Probably hormone related, too. Ugh, it’s tough being a woman. As you can imagine, with all of the activity, I didn’t have time to cook anything elaborate. Everything was quick and simple, but delish. :)

When I woke up, nothing sounded better to me than an almond butter + strawberry fruit spread wrap, so I had that for my pre-obstacle course snack.

  • 1 La Tortilla Factory low carb wrap (80 cal)
  • 2 TBSP/32g MaraNatha creamy almond butter (190 cal)
  • 1 TBSP/18g strawberry Polaner All Fruit (40 cal)

1 wrap, 310 calories

I rolled it up skinny like a “Fruit Roll-Up”

DEEEEEEEEEElicious!! Not terribly filling, but held me through 60 minutes of my obstacle course. Then I came upstairs, did a little work, and had another snack before going back down to finish my exercise. This time I grabbed a hard boiled egg (75 cal) that was in the fridge and sliced it up on 1 Martin’s 100% whole wheat potato roll (80 cal) with a Fage Total 2% with peach (130 cal) on the side:

For only 285 calories, this was actually making me stuffed as I was eating it! The egg was a little overdone, so the yolk crumbled when I cut it. :( I was too impatient to use the egg slicer. lol With lots of energy, I headed down to the basement where I did:

- 60 more minutes of obstacle course
- Upper body strength training for 20-30 mins
- 20 mins of intervals on my recumbent bike

You’d think I would be exhausted by all of that, but I actually felt full of energy and could have done twice as much. I read an article a few weeks ago about replenishing your glycogen stores while you are working out (e.g., drinking a sugary drink). So every 15-30 minutes, I sipped on a bottle of Vitaminwater formula 50 (grape, 125 calories per bottle); the full-sugar kind and I actually noticed a difference. I think it was very helpful to my endurance, so I’m going to incorporate this into my heavy duty workouts from now on. Like I’ve said before, the best times to eat/drink sugary things are before, after or during your workouts when your body can use the fuel the most. Of course, I don’t always follow this “rule of thumb”, but I like to take advantage of it when I can. :)

I was REALLY hungry after my workout, but full of sweat and desperately needed a shower. So, I grabbed a Cookies & Cream Delight Luna bar (180 cal) to eat while I took a shower. Then I made something more substantial after I was dressed. I was all about convenience today and nothing is more convenient than throwing a yummy sandwich together. I <3 sandwiches, can ya tell? ;)

I bought these HUGE rolls in Hannaford the other day and they were on the verge of going stale, in fact, they pretty much were but I revived them by cutting them in half and popping them in the oven on 425F. They came out crusty and softer… perfecto! I left the oven on while I built the sandwiches. I spread avocado on both halves, then topped the halves with 2 slices Applegate Farms turkey breast (60 cal), a sliced plum tomato and 14g blue cheese crumbles (50 cal), then I popped it back in the oven to melt the blue cheese crumbles. When I took it out, I put a big handful of arugula on top:

I didn’t spare any caloric expense on my sides either. I went all out on 1oz Kettle Honey Dijon chips (150 cal) and 1 strawberry Chobani yogurt (140 cal) topped with 10g Uncle Sam’s original cereal (40 cal).

WOW!! Everything was SOO SO SOOOO good! I loved the sandwich, the chips tasted like honey mustard and the yogurt was rich and creamy. Yum! I don’t know the exact calories for this, but I estimate it to be around 700 calories for everything. As hard as I worked out, I surely earned those calories, but the sodium was too high. Sodium is my biggest downfall. *sigh* At least I worked up several big sweats! :) Later on, I had a tuna sandwich before bed. My fruit and veggies were weak today, but that’s ok. I’m all about the balance, not about perfection.

Time to go start another busy day. My menu is going to be way more exciting today. But first, more exercise! I love being active. I guess instead of spending my free time on TV, I’m spending it exercising lol. That’s cool with me though. I love listening to my iPod and zoning out. It’s actually fun to me! (Who IS this person that is saying this?! :o That doesn’t even sound like me! hahahaha)
