Happy Thanksgiving!

by J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on November 27, 2009

I hope everyone had a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! It sort of sneaked up on me this year and I was completely uncreative with the menu. I had a few other things planned, including appetizers, but ended up skipping them and went the traditional route. It was just the 3 of us, but we still had a 21 lb turkey! Leftovers are the best!! Butter seemed to be the theme of the meal lol.

Stuffing made with celery and onions (and probably butter lol)

Say what you want about jellied cranberry sauce, but I freakin’ LOVE it!! :D

Corn with butter :)

Our big bird rubbed with butter and herbs. The butter blackened a little in the oven, but that’s ok, still delish!!

I started running out of Thanksgiving and harvest themed dishes, so I went with 2 small pumpkin bowls of mashed potatoes (made with BUTTER) instead of one large one.

Homemade pan gravy… hold the butta! :P

You can tell how often the salt shaker is used around here; the last time it was refilled was over a year ago and I didn’t even have anymore to top it off with. Dustin is the only one that uses it other than when I use it sparingly when cooking certain things like mashed potatoes. Gotta have a little flavor, ya know? ;)

We had 2 pies: Pumpkin pie and this apple pie with oat, brown sugar and BUTTER crumbles…

…unfortunately, we weren’t destined to eat them. :( We were too full yesterday, then this morning the pumpkin pie fell out of the fridge!!! *hand to forehead* I had a sliver of it this morning and couldn’t wait to have a full piece with whipped cream. *sigh* Hopefully the apple one will be yummy. I think I’ll have a big piece with some hot apple cider later on today. I REALLY wanted more of that pumpkin pie though!! From what I tasted, it was sooo yummy. :( Boo!

So, as you can see, Thanksgiving was very humble. I’m saving my creative juices for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I better start planning it now or else it will sneak up on me just like Thanksgiving did. I have another update with a recap from the whole week that I’ll post tomorrow. I wanted the Big Bird to have its day in the spotlight. It was sooo yummy. Leftovers here I come!!!!!

Feeling Hot, Hot, HOT!

I’ve recently discovered that Tabasco is not only delicious, but also low in sodium! Who knew?! I’m always terribly jealous of hubby when he puts Frank’s Red Hot sauce on his food, but it’s SO high in sodium (200mg for a TEASPOON ) that I only have it when I feel like descending into puffy [...]

Ok, it’s official: Bananas dominate anything you put them in. I did an intense 8.25 miles in 30 minutes on my recumbent bike, then decided to indulge in a decadent bowl of oats that I originally planned to have on Halloween, but didn’t get around to. Milky Way + peanut butter pretzels banana oats in [...]

They Call Me Yellow Mellow

I just noticed that my pictures come out considerably better in low-light when I use my yellow place mats. All of October I struggled with nighttime lighting issues over the kitchen table; obviously the combination of dark orange place mats and plates of the same color was contributing to the poor picture quality. As you’ll [...]

YAY YANKEES!!!!!! We proudly watched as the New York Yankees won their 27th World Series championship tonight. Unfortunately, I didn’t have peanuts or Cracker Jack, but I did have a bountiful salad of assorted colors, textures, and flavors: Aunt Flo arrived a couple days ago, so I’ve been feeling very blah and out of it. [...]
