New Year, New Chair

by J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on January 5, 2010

I finally tried the Egg Genie that Dustin bought me for my birthday. He’s been egging me on to try it (hehe), so we had poached eggs for breakfast. Or rather, what was supposed to be poached. :?

We only had extra large eggs, which is weird because we always buy large. I cracked each one in the 4 compartment tray that came with it; the eggs were so big that they barely fit. lol

Filled up to the brim…

I followed the directions and added the water in the metal plate part, then put the dome on top and plugged it in…

Cute huh? When the buzzer went off, I tried to scoop the egg out, but I struck a pool of egg white that wasn’t cooked. So I added more water and put it on again. I probably shouldn’t have let it cook as long as I did because they ended up coming out soft boiled, close to hard boiled. Totally missed most of the runny yolk! :( Ah well, I’ll know for next time. They stuck to the tray a little, but it wasn’t too bad for not having any oil/butter/cooking spray. It’s funny when you take the eggs out because they are triangular LOL.

I had mine (2 XL eggs, ~170 cal) on an Ezekiel 4:9 sprouted grain English muffin (160 cal) with a cup of coffee using mom’s vanilla creamer (~75 cal) and a medium Golden Delicious apple on the side (~90 cal), which came to just 495 calories or so.

I had a little taste of the runny yolk, but not much. :P

Dustin bought me this Hello Kitty mug for Christmas <3 Adorable!!

Next time I will try to cook them less, but before I try poached again, I’m going to try the hard boiled function. I like it a lot, but due to my inexperience using it, it ended up being more of a mess than the regular pot and stove way lol. Practice makes perfect. :)

After breakfast we did some work, ran some local errands (bank, post office, etc.) — YAY for first business day after the holidays — then came home, took showers and got ready to go out. I desperately needed a new computer chair, the one I had was no longer balanced. No idea how it got that way, but it wanted to lean in every direction and it was getting quite annoying to sit on. So Dustin and I headed to Middletown in search of a new computer chair and a new memory card for my digital camera(s). We decided to have a late lunch/early dinner at one of our new favorite restaurants: The Park.

Being it was around 3:00PM, we were the only people in there. It was great. I LOVE the decor and the staff is so friendly and attentive. Plus their food is outstanding and reasonably priced, which makes it darn near perfect. We started with Shrimp Sumai Dumplings and a Philadelphia sushi roll:

These were actually quite small; bite sized, but delicious.

Honestly, I have not had a lot of sushi in my lifetime, but this was the BEST I have ever had. The rice wasn’t overly sweet, which I’m not a fan of, so that’s probably why I liked it so much. Inside had smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado. A-MAAAZZZing!

For my entree, I had the mahi mahi burger with garlic aioli on one of the best rolls I have had in a long time. Doesn’t this look like something that I would make at home?! LOVED it!

Dustin had the duck confit:

I had a bite, it was incredible. I had about 3/4 of the mahi mahi burger, 1 of the chips and Dustin brought home one of his pieces of duck. Can’t wait to go back, the Philadelphia roll is still on my mind. :D

After dinner (linner?) we stopped by Best Buy where I bought a new memory card. Then we went to Staples and I got a new chair, nothing fancy. I want to save the furniture I really want for our first house. We fell in love with one that we found online, but we’re not going to be in the market until around June. So I’m hoping that this house will still be available because it is just perfect in every single way. My heart flutters a little just thinking about it. lol

They’re shutting our water off tomorrow to fix something that broke, so I’m not sure how long it will be off for. Hopefully not too long! I’m going to take an extra shower tonight just in case. I’m paranoid about things like that. What if something goes wrong and there’s no water for the whole day, or week? *panics* LOL Should be quick and painless… I hope! Guess we’ll find out. :)
