Hey guys! Sorry that I’ve been MIA for so long, I’ve been insanely busy since last week.
I wanted to do a quick update to share this amazing smoussie with you. What’s a smoussie you ask? Well, it’s when you attempt to make a smoothie and it turns out thick, fluffy and creamy like mousse instead of drinkable like a smoothie.
This is the first time I used my Vita-Mix and l am totally in love with it!! I’ve seen hundreds, if not thousands of green monsters all over the blogosphere forever now, but I’ve never tried one myself. So I figured now is definitely the time to try it with this fancy schmancy new mixer, right? Get your spoon ready!

Banana Avocado Smoussie
- 1 cup hemp milk (100 cal)
- 35g Lifetime Life’s Basics vanilla plant (complete) protein powder (129 cal)
- 2 frozen medium bananas (220 cal)
- 2 cups fresh baby spinach (15 cal)
- 137g fresh Haas avocado (230 cal)
2 servings, 347 calories each
- Add liquid in first, then everything else
- Blend on medium-high for 2 or 3 minutes

This is dairy-free, vegan and absolutely delicious! It might also qualify as raw vegan, but I’m not sure if the sugar in the hemp milk is considered raw or not. Anyone know? I topped mine with 7g Trader Joe’s 3 berry granola (15 cal) and 7g coconut flakes (35 cal), which brought mine up to 397 calories.
I picked up this box of Hemp Dream hemp drink at Mother Earth’s last week:

LOVE the nutritional facts on it!! Unlike other milk alternatives, this is very low in sodium, only 5mg per serving and it has a decent amount of protein (4g) unlike almond milk.

Back to the smoussie: It was truly amazing! I don’t know if I can attribute the Vita-Mix to the texture, but it was SO good! It would rival any dessert, but it’s filling enough for a meal. This was our breakfast yesterday and I was so impressed. Such simple ingredients, yet SO tasty! Oh, and did I emphasize how healthy it is? Extremely good for you! I promise you can’t taste the spinach in it at all. It’s sweet, creamy and kind of tastes like banana pudding. I’m sure the avocado contributed to its awesome creaminess, too, but you can’t taste it at all. Loooooooooooved it!! Dustin loved it, too. I can’t wait to have it again, it’s THAT good. I highly recommend everyone try this combination ASAP!
Let me know if you liked it!
Ok, I have to go workout now, but I’ll do a big “catch up” post later tonight with all of last week. I just wanted to share this. Enjoy!
What’s your favorite smoothie (or smoussie)? My Vita-Mix is going to be going 24/7 in the summer.
I have so many ideas going through my mind. YUM!

Dustin said that he bought it on their web site: http://www.vitamix.com I was surprised by how expensive they are, too! I think they’re worth it though, it’s really awesome and a good investment if you’re going to use it a lot.
I have never seen avocado in a Green Monster myself, but go for it I guess! I always just cram spinach into the Vitamix with ON Protein power and skim milk till I can’t fit anymore. Great bulk/vitamins for little effort tho, IMO, I hate to eat a lot of food tho
I’ve just started getting into smoothies and I’m always afraid I’ll taste the stuff I don’t like and waste it, but knowing you can’t taste the spinach or avocado in this makes me want to try it soon.
I love any smoothie with a frozen banana in it! But my favorite is chocolate protein powder, peanut butter, skim or almond milk, and froz banana. YUM!
Oh, I would so love to have a Vita Mix! That sounds delicious! I love the color! I am not much for drinking my calories, so I would like the consistency of yours! YUM!
this is sooo pretty! I’m not a big smoothie fan during winter, it makes cold, but during summer, yes! favorite combo is pretty much the same as yours
Wow, what a great idea for a smoothie Jenn
.
My favorite is Banana/Strawberries. You can’t go wrong with that mix.
