I love colorful fruits + veggies!
I especially love said beautiful tomatoes in a bountiful salad paired with grilled, trim London broil…
I’ve had a bottle of Mr. Spice salt free (sodium free) steak sauce hidden in the cabinet for the longest time, and when we were reunited, I was inspired to grill some tasty, lean beef. Mr. Spice salt free steak sauce tastes just like A-1 steak sauce, minus the sodium and other funky ingredients. It’s fabulous! They have a whole line of sauces that I really need to stock up on again! I liked all the flavors I have tried, wish my local store would carry more than just the steak sauce.
<3 big salads <3
This time my gigantic salad was nestled in a serving bowl.
Big enough for several people, but designed all for ME!
I ate all of it, along with thinly sliced pieces of grilled London broil. Delish.
We went to Mother Earth’s on Saturday; I didn’t get much volume-wise, but I got some pricey items like Navitas flax seed powder and smoked paprika ($26.99/lb!!)
–all good investments, though. I picked up a package of low sodium muesli breakfast pitas with raisins. SO tasty!! I’ve eaten them plain since bringing them home, but yesterday I decided to use one as the base for a tuna melt:
Gala apple with a blob of Barney Butter on the side
I made tuna salad with: 2 cans Bumble Bee very low sodium tuna, 1/4 cup Fage Total 0% plain Greek strained yogurt, carrots, red onion, no salt added bread & Butter pickles, black pepper, AlsoSalt salt alternative, and 1 teaspoon EVOO. I put about 1/3 of it on a pita (170 cal), then topped it with 1/2 oz reduced fat/sodium cheddar cheese (45 cal) and popped it in the oven to melt for a few minutes. It was YUMMY! However, the yogurt didn’t really do anything for it. I decided to use it as a mayo substitute to cut down on the sodium content, but it was dry, as if it was just plain tuna. That’s ok, though. It still tasted really good! I’m not super fussy.
Question: Do you like no or reduced sodium versions of your usual favorites? e.g., tuna, cheese, bread, condiments, etc.

I don’t usually use low-sodium stuff that much, except for soy sauce. I do eat a lot of unprocessed foods and rinse off any canned beans that I use to cut down on the sodium, but its definitely something I should work on.

I love big salads too! They are so healthy and so filling!
Oooh those tomatoes look beautiful!! I got some huge juicy ones in my CSA this week! Soooo good!
I try to get low sodium broth and soy sauce but other things if I get the low sodium version I end up adding salt anyway
I’m a salty eater!

I never think to watch my sodium intake. Probably should, though. I just love salty, crunchy things!
mmm i definitely love the idea of using one for the base of ur delicious tuna melt!
theres some low sodium things i like, especially broths, sauces or creams… even refried beans sometimes.. but soups dont cut it for me. no matter how many times i try a low sodium soup.. i end up adding salt to it LOL!

I am a huge fan of big salads! I hord them too! I don’t seem to have a problem with the lower sodium stuff, however since I put hot sauce on everything…I think it is hard for me to tell the difference!
The salad looks so good!
To be honest, I rarely pay attention to sodium content. If I can get a reduced sodium option and it tastes great then bonus otherwise give me the salt!
I’m impressed the lengths you go to avoid the sodium that’s sneaking into our food supply! Lately I’ve been finding that there’s a lot more sodium all around me than I ever thought – because it makes me feel sick when I eat too much
I never really check on my sodium content, but I like low-sodium products just so I can season the dishes myself…regular chicken broth, tuna, etc just gets too salty!
I try to keep aware of my sodium, especially because I’m preggers.
I don’t usually look at the sodium as much as I should!
Your salad looks awesome. I have a topsy turvey tomato plant and I wasn’t really paying attention to the variety of tomato plants I bought, and one is a cherry tomato plant and I love it! I’m totally going to do that one again.
Since you sent me that email – I still have yet to add the sodium to my caloriecount – maybe because I am afraid at what it will say!
All your eats look delish!
Happy Friday!

My lymphedema specialist recommended that I cut back on sodium because it really exaggerates the condition. I was shocked when I started tracking it, especially since I’m not a big salter of things. But the foods I eat had a lot of sodium. My mom got me a jar of Kroger brand No Sodium Bread and Butter pickles. Since salt brings out sweetness, I was skeptical. But they’re excellent. I have since purchased them again. I’ve also tried the reduced salt Ritz Crackers and reduced sodium saltines from Kroger. Not as pleased with those but they’re good if you have them with something else.
As a side note, I just discovered your blog from the Livestrong site. I’m enjoying the food pictures.
