We had visitors in our backyard yesterday:
We actually have deer in our yard every day, but we don’t see the babies very often. So cute, right? ![]()
After our friends departed, we sat down for lunch. I was in the mood for raw pea salad, which I really can’t get enough of. It’s just SO good! If you haven’t tried it yet, get on that!! I also had a killer turkey sandwich…
- About a cup of defrosted frozen peas (raw) tossed with 1 teaspoon EVOO, red wine vinegar and chopped red onion
- 3 slices Black Bear carving board turkey (50 cal, 220mg sodium) on an Ezekiel 4:9 sprouted grain roll (170 cal) with 1 slice Kraft ultra thin Swiss cheese (60 cal), romaine lettuce, 1 TBSP Hellmann’s olive oil mayo (50 cal) and no salt added bread & butter pickles
Totally delicious. I’m glad I ate a hearty lunch before we went grocery shopping; I’m sure there would have been a lot more impulse buys, but I kept them to a minimum–by my standards, anyway, lol.
I had a glorious Greek salad for lunch today. Sodium bomb, yes, but worth it? Yep!
Look at this cluster of salty goodness <3
- Bed of mixed spring greens + arugula tossed in EVOO and red wine vinegar, topped with: red onion, 1oz feta cheese, mixed lives from olive bar, and 2 Joseph’s 100% whole wheat mini pitas (160 cal) on the side.
I managed not to go completely crazy at the olive bar, just 3/4 of a pint. I already ate half of it since yesterday, though.
I love olives! I’ve never seen them in raw form, but that would be delightful. I could make my own and control the salt content. I’ll still indulge in the little salt bombs, though. They’re too amazing to live without.
Dustin doesn’t like olives at all, but maybe one day his taste buds will mature and he’ll see the light.
Question: What’s your favorite kind of bar? Salad bar? Hot food bar? Olive bar? Wine and spirits bar?

LOL, that sounds awesome. I’ve never been to one of those. *sniffle* I’ll have to make my own one day.
The pea salad looks great- I love red onion!
I have never seen a raw olive either- I hear they are extremely bitter and basically inedible before they are cured… I always wonder how anyone ever thought to eat them in the first place!
I want to thank you for the very thoughtful and considerate messages you’ve left on my blog these past few days as I’ve struggled with my tummy issues — knowing that you can sympathize with me and that you care really does help and makes me feel exponentially better. Seriously — thank you! ^_^
Omigosh, those deer are adorable! I grew up in the country, where the deer roamed freely, but living in the suburbs has kept the animal sightings to a minimum. Those fawn are so cute!
I love salty things, like pickles and olives, but I’m like you — I react terribly to salt and retain water like there’s a drought or something. Yikes! But, yum, that salad looks like it was worth a bit of edema for how delicious it looks!
Dessert bar, hands down, of course. Dessert FTW.
Awww, those deer are so sweet looking!
DEER!! omg u and me both and out backyard guests! if u cut up an apple and slowly crouch near them and hold it out they will start to move closer to you. and soon u’ll be feeding them out of ur hand! <3
Bambi!!!
I’m a huge fan of salad bars, the best way to load up on all types of veggies!!
* raises hand for the wine bar- hehe! I think I’ve eaten at a salad bar once in my life – although I love salads when I go out to dinner, a salad just isn’t what’s going in my tummy – not when there is seafood on the menu
Definitely salad bar! Feta is the one cheese I miss. There really is no substitute!
Martini bar!!!!
whole foods bar is my fav!
Salad bar, for sure! I love Souplantation here in Cali. Best salad bar EVER.
Love the baby deer. I miss that about living in Indiana (I live in Cali now). We never see deer here.
I love hot food bars and salad bars. Oh, the possibilities!
My favorite hot food/salad bar is probably at Whole Foods. They have such an incredible selection of yummy, healthy options. Problem is, my wallet always aches afterwards!
I love olives, so much. But I can often still taste them the next day, which isn’t so great. As for my favourite bar… a wine bar if it’s the evening and a good salad bar.

I love olives, but usually only if they’re stuffed with garlic! I ate so many of them when I lived in Spain I actually developed a slight allergy. I’ll eat tons of little pickled things all the time if they’re available, though. I’m crazy about cornichon and onions.
baby deer!!! omg i am in love
i’m going with olive and cheese bar…i don’t know where that might be, but wherever it is, I love it!
Oh my gosh, deer in your yard!? I’m so jealous!
I love chocolate bars. Oh, that wasn’t the question? Okay okay, I guess salad bars
