Hey, friends! How is your week treating you? Mine is going pretty… well, it’s going. I’ll take it. heh
I just got back inside from Caesar’s nightly walk. He was sick for a couple of days over the weekend; he had the exact same symptoms that Kitty China had last week: Vomiting, runs, etc. Maybe if they’d stop sneaking bites of each other’s food we’d know if it was isolated to one of them or the other, but now it’s hard to know. Our vet wasn’t in Monday or Tuesday, so we couldn’t get him in until tomorrow. He’s better now, the symptoms have subsided, as have Kitty China’s, but they’re both going as a package deal to the vet tomorrow. Should be a fun car ride, lol. Perhaps they will join forces against the common enemy: Mr. Take-my-temperature-WHERE vet? Whaaaa? O_O Dude.
Fur-family is on the mend but now the car is el sicko. It needs new rotors, so we’re having them replaced on Friday or Saturday, whenever our guy is available. Dustin’s dad and brother are mechanics, but they live all the way in Ohio. Bummer!
I have a new favorite food. It’s not really new, but the way I’ve been using it is new to me.
Nori wraps that aren’t sushi!
I’m sure this is probably considered sacrilege in Japan. You can call it grain-free sushi or rice-free sushi or delicious. Whatever, it’s all true. ![]()
I used the Emerald Cove brand this time but Amazon has a great deal on Navitas Naturals 50-count nori sheets: $19.22 as of 2/21/12
Each sheet has only 10 calories, so you can load them with veggies and whatever else you like and save a ton of calories and carbs compared to traditional wraps. Plus they’re grain-free, gluten-free, soy-free, egg-free, dairy-free, AND vegan.
Fishy, seaweed taste? Not really! I mean, it’s there if you pay close attention, but it’s not overwhelming in the least. I taste the fillings. I have also been eating the sheets plain like a cracker. Dustin isn’t a fan. More for me!
This one was filled with:
- Roasted turkey breast
- Raw milk cheddar cheese, about .5 oz
- Fresh pico de gallo
- Half sour garlic pickle
- Thin spread of mayo for binder
Crisp red grapes on the side. SO GOOD. And good for you:
Health Benefits
Why would anyone want to eat sea vegetables? Because they offer one of the broadest ranges of minerals of any food, containing virtually all the minerals found in the ocean – and not surprisingly, many of same minerals found in human blood. The also offer a variety of unique phytonutrients, including their sulfated polysaccharides (also called fucoidans). Unlike some other categories of vegetables, sea vegetables do not appear to depend on carotenoids and flavonoids for their antioxidant benefits, because in additional to these two important categories of antioxidants, sea vegetables contain several other types, including alkaloid antioxidants. Sea vegetables are an excellent source of iodine and vitamin K, a very good source of the B-vitamin folate, and magnesium, and a good source of iron and calcium, and the B-vitamins riboflavin and pantothenic acid. They also contain measurable amounts of vitamins C and E. (source)

Do you like sea vegetables? What are your favorite kinds?
Going to play with my dehydrator now, because that’s what most people do at nearly midnight, right?
