My Blog’s Day Off

by J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on January 29, 2012

Apparently Dream Host was having issues from last night until just a little while ago and many sites, including mine, have been down since last night. My apologies to anyone who could not load my blog today! I’m glad that it’s back up now, but down for nearly 24 hours? Not good! If there was anything I could have done to fix the issue, I assure you I would have done so immediately. It took awhile to get a response from DreamHost, so I had no idea why it was down either. Let’s hope it’s 100% resolved now!

Yesterday, on Dustin’s “day off,” he cut out stencils that we’re going to use for a Ron Paul project. And no, (sadly) it’s not a pink project, heh.

Then, we went to Middletown to pick up a “few” things from Hannaford. One of my favorite aisles in that store is the one with the clearance items. They offer a lot of great stuff that’s just a few weeks “out of season,” like Christmas baking supplies, but they usually have expiration dates that are pretty far off.

I scored some neat items this time: Enormous 10.58 oz Lindt chocolate bricks bars for $3/each and a bag of Bob’s Red Mill xanthan gum (gluten-free) for only $2.75!

I searched online and the cheapest I could find Bob’s Red Mill xanthan gum was for $11/8 oz bag on the company’s web site; so $2.75 is a steal!

I got 4 bars of bittersweet Lindt chocolate, and one milk chocolate (Dustin’s choice). I love that the bittersweet is dairy-free, which is fantastic. One more way for me to reduce dairy in my life, I’m all for it.

I can use the bittersweet for so many goodies; chocolate-covered… anything! Or I could chop it into chunks and put it in cookies or muffins or ice cream or… anything! hehe Pretty excited about it. Open-mouthed smile

We stopped at Panera Bread to pick up something quick for dinner. I went with their tuna salad on three cheese bread…

Dustin hasn’t eaten land animals in over a month now. He has taken on a pescetarian diet, which means the only meat he eats is seafood, so we have been eating a lot of seafood this month, which I love! I like this way of eating and will elaborate on it in future posts.

It came with a dill pickle spear and we both chose apples for our side item, but we don’t eat them because they’re kind of funky, lol. We feed them to the birds and whatever animals want to nibble on them.

I’ve never had a bad sandwich from Panera Bread! Everything they make is SO tasty! Mainly the bread. Winking smile The tuna salad is a mayo bomb, but it still tasted good and I’d order it again. Their tap water on the other hand… BLEK! Tastes awful at the Middletown store. Sick smile

I just ate a bunch of crisp red grapes; they’re on sale at Shop Rite so I picked some up today and now my tummy hurts from the little fructose bomb I just inhaled, lol. So yummy, though! Grapes MUST be crisp or I won’t eat them. Mushy grapes = GROSS

Off to go see what’s on Tivo and put fresh clean sheets on the bed. I’m a huge fan of freshly scented, clean sheets, so I try to wash and change them at least 3-4x a week – how about you?

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Here’s to a great week ahead. Smile

ETA: Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes for mom! Red heart She’s doing better but still not back to full health. She’s complaining of her head pain returning again today. She’s seeing a rheumatologist on Tuesday, and hopefully will get an appointment with her new PCP (primary) by mid-week. Hopefully we’ll know more by the end of this week. She’s in good spirits, but understandably bored and frustrated with bed rest. She keeps trying to do more than she should, and I think it’s contributing to her symptoms worsening. We need a baby monitor AND some straps to hold her in place. She’s a feisty one! Be right back

We’re getting some nasty weather at the moment: Eww. My blog has been quiet for the past week+ because 2012 is trying to kill me. No. Seriously, it is. Last week, we had to rush my mom to the ER at 12:30 AM because she fainted twice. She had been incapacitated all week with head [...]

Distance driven to and from New Hampshire: 586 miles Hours slept before leaving for trip: zero — wide awake at 3:00 am taking bathroom mirror pics Time slept in car on way to NH: I estimate 20 minutes total, Dustin says it was more like the 4.5 hour duration of trip. Hoodies are very useful [...]

One More To Go

xmas_dinner_2x_dec25

This has been a very, very long holiday season, and we’re still not done yet: New Year’s! Who knew the mundane days of January would be so darn appealing? #oldcatlady Christmas Day was pretty chill around our abode. We opened copious amounts of presents, then ate and ate some more. Not complaining! Christmas dinner: Prime [...]

My Birth Week

I know that the evidence suggests otherwise, but I haven’t forgotten that I am a blogger. And contrary to the narcissistic voices in my head, I am aware that celebrating one’s birth is typically a one day event, but somehow mine went on most of the past week. Sure. Why not? Next year, I’ll shoot [...]

My 32nd Birthday

Gift with a bow

Happy birthday to me! Today, we’re going to New Jersey to do some things that we can’t do in NY, such as having lunch at Chick-Fil-A! Then, we’re going to see The Muppets Movie because I’m actually turning 3.2 today, not 3.2 decades. After the Muppets, we’re going to Trader Joe’s because the closest one [...]

Lettuce Be BFFs

December 8, 2011 Jenneral Posts

One of the healthiest habits I picked up this year stemmed from Disney World—Epcot, to be exact. What healthful habit could I have possibly have picked up at the sugariest happiest place on Earth? Lettuce wraps! I can’t seem to get enough of them ever since having this one that blissful day at Epcot. Of [...]

‘Tis the Season… for Tuna

Its been quite the week. Tuesday: We saw a matinee of Breaking Dawn and I had to practice some serious restraint during the honeymoon bedroom scene. I found it to be hilarious and I literally had to bite my lip to keep from laughing. The whole storyline is pretty silly, but the 13-year-old girl in [...]

Green Stuff

xmas_tree_2011_1_nov27.jpg

After Thanksgiving, anything and everything green sounds just right. I haven’t even looked at the leftover turtle cheesecake; hopefully my mom ate it all (ha!) or pawned it off on someone else. I’m not doing intentional low-carb this week, I decided to do it casually and unintentionally, if and when I want to. I’m still [...]

Thanksgiving Lolcats 2

Happy Thanksgiving, friends! Our smoked turkey was delivered yesterday and it’s still defrosting while we work on everything else. It says to eat it cold or heat in oven, so we’ll pop it in the oven an hour before dinner. Our cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory was also delivered yesterday. Yay! Mom has been busy [...]
