A
lot of people ask me what I buy at the store and to give them ideas on
what they could buy. So I made a small list of some of my pantry staples,
favorites, and "If I'm in the mood" items:
- Fruit
and Vegetables:
- Romaine,
Bibb, (Boston) lettuce and other leafy greens
- Spring
mix salad bag
- Tomatoes
- Plum
tomatoes (Roma)
- Avocado
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Cucumbers
- Onions
- Mushrooms
- Carrots
and/or baby carrots
- Bananas
- Apples:
Red Delicious, Gala, Granny Smith
- Pears
- Fresh
baby spinach
- Red
potatoes
- Yukon
gold potatoes
- Green beans
- Oranges
- Fresh herbs: parsley, basil, chives, etc.
- Any fruit or veggies that are in season at the time, like: berries,
winter squash, summer squash, asparagus, etc.
- Frozen: Birds Eye
zucchini/summer squash, green beans, corn, cauliflower, mixed veggies,
and/or any of the above that freeze well. Canned veggies are also
good if you prefer; just try to get the no salt added variety.
- Meat, fish, poultry:
- Skinless, boneless chicken breast
- Skinless chicken drumsticks
- Skinless chicken legs
- Skinless, boneless chicken thighs
- Lean beef (at least 92% fat free): tenderloin, ground)
- Lean ground turkey breast (white meat only)
- 96/4 lean ground beef
- Turkey breast, skinless
- Hewbrew National 97% fat free all beef hot dogs
- Butterball Thin & Crispy turkey bacon
- Boar's Head 47% lower sodium turkey (deli counter)
- Salmon (wild Alaskan, Sockeye)
- Shrimp
- Scallops
- Halibut, cod, talapia and other fish
- Salmon burgers
- Bumble Bee low sodium tuna fish (canned)
- Lobster or lump crab meat
