A Believer and A Nonbeliever

by J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on July 15, 2011

white_nectarine_2_jul15I’m a bit of both today! What do I believe in? Lots of things! Like: The effectiveness of Clearly Fresh Bags.

Remember my initial Clearly Fresh Bags review from 10 days ago? I have an update!

It involves the white nectarines seen to the immediate left of this text.

Clearly Fresh Bags is offering j3nn.net readers a 15% off online coupon good until 7/22/11! Just enter promo code JML15 when prompted at the checkout.

I placed my white nectarines and faith inside my sample of Clearly Fresh Bags 10 days ago, ate two of them this week, and left the rest to science experimentation. I took a few glimpses at the content of the bag throughout the week and the contents were still normal looking.

Today, I opened up the bag and found:

2 of them had spoiled Sad smile

But the other two were perfectly fresh and edible! Not too soft, not too firm, and no wrinkling.

Some considerations: 1-) There was some moisture inside the bag. It’s been hot + humid and there’s no AC in our house. 2-) I have NO IDEA when the rotten two were picked, if they were from the same tree, truck load, etc. 3-) I don’t know how well the other two were handled; If they had bruises, blemishes, etc. But considering the two of them lasted tens days after buying them at the store during warm weather, I believe in the effectiveness of Clearly Fresh Bags. One last consideration: I didn’t do a comparison test with a regular storage bag. So, I don’t know if I would have gotten identical or similar results. I’ll have to try that with my other samples.

I cut the remaining good white nectarines up to be enjoyed as snacks.

I’m not a fan of extra warm fruit, so into the fridge it went. Smile

What don’t I believe in? Quite a few things, but today, I lost faith in this gluten-free, grain-free bread experiment:

bread_fail_3_jul15.jpg

Even with an all-star lineup of ingredients they still failed to deliver. Sad smile

Not even freshly ground chia seeds could save the day!

They were borderline edible if you REALLY want a gluten-free, grain-free bread, but not worth settling for, in my opinion. So: I’m not going to share the disaster recipe with you, but if you can’t live without it and are dying to know, just e-mail me and I’ll give it to you. I don’t want to lead anyone astray with this flop unless they accept that they aren’t that fabulous and want them anyway, lol.

What do you believe in today? Or what have you lost faith in lately?

I’m putting a lot of faith in a prescription that I don’t really want to take! I’m still battling this sinus and/or allergy problem. My newest symptom: My ears feel like they need to “pop.” Disappointed smile I know that’s definitely my sinuses because I’ve had this symptom before, but not in the past 7 or 8 years. How lucky am I! LOL The reason this happens is that there’s a little connective thingie (scientific term) between your nose and ear and when it’s inflamed or infected, liquid gets trapped in there and all that pleasant stuff. I’m on day 5 of my antibiotic (cipro), so the infection is probably stepping up its game to stay alive and stuff, but my immune system with the help of the antibiotic aren’t having any of that! Infection: You are going down! I asked it nicely to leave, but diplomacy failed. So, I went to war and brought in the allies. The great sinus saga continues…

LOL – Love it!! Rolling on the floor laughing

I finally saw my doctor on Friday afternoon and I’ve been going back and forth (in my head) with the treatment options I left the office with. She confirmed what I suspected about my sinuses, inflamed, infected, etc. She said my inner ear has fluid in it and my glands are slightly swollen. On top [...]

July 6, 2011 Reviews
clearly_fresh_bags_2_jul6.jpg

A few weeks ago, Wenonah at Clearly Fresh Bags contacted me and offered to send some samples of their bags. Being we almost always have an abundance of fresh produce in our house that I’d like to keep that way, I gladly accepted her offer. I received my sample in the mail just a few [...]

"I should have loved freedom, I believe, at all times, but in the time in which we live I am ready to worship it." — Alexis de Tocqueville I admit, for most of my 31 years of life, I was complacent and took our extraordinary country and all the freedom and opportunity we have for [...]

June 27, 2011 Recipes
avocado_choc_pb_mousse_1

I’ve seen it a few dozens times. I’ve swooned over it. I’ve had all the ingredients on several occasions, but today was the first time I put them together and made this rich and creamy dairy-free, vegan mousse. I intended to use two avocados, but one was beyond the point of use. The one I [...]

Happy birthday to Dustin! We had his party at my Aunt Gina and Uncle Brian’s house so that we could play paintball. They have a 12-acre Christmas tree farm that is set up perfectly for paintball. It’s hard to tell from the pics, but the grounds are very large; there are so many hiding places [...]

Working Weekend

May 31, 2011 Holidays

Hey, blogadoodles!! Long time no blog, right? We were pretty busy—and HOT—this holiday weekend. Temperatures hovered around 90F degrees every day. It’s not even noon yet! Did I mention I hate humidity? HATE IT. And our central air is not working right; it’s not cooling down the house, so we haven’t even put it on—no [...]

strawb_smoothie_1_may9

I’ve had coconut milk a few times, but I’ve never really HAD coconut milk until this morning. I don’t know what changed, but when I opened the can that I refrigerated overnight and had a taste, I was like, “OMG, this is freakin’ amazing! Buh-bye cow juice!” Well, ok, that’s probably being a bit dramatic, [...]

mandis_party_2_arp22.jpg

Two of my little cousins are just now entering into their teen years. Seems like just yesterday that was me! Although I wouldn’t want to be a teenager again… well, maybe 19, lol. I wouldn’t complain too much about that. But I like being an adult. I like being my age. Mainly because I don’t [...]
