Day one of our gluten and cow milk reduction diet: So far, so good. Of course, we’ve only been awake for about 2 hours, but we had breakfast without any issues!! heh
We opted for leftover party fruit (cantaloupe, pineapple, watermelon) and Old Chatham Sheepherding Company sheep’s milk yogurt (140 cal, 10g protein, 3g milk sugars) that I picked up at Mother Earth’s the other day:

I mixed mine with a heaping teaspoon of extra virgin coconut oil and a few drops of NuNatural’s vanilla liquid stevia, plus raw slivered almonds on top.
A light yet satisfying meal. I’ve had Old Chatham Sheepherding Company’s (loooong name) sheep’s milk yogurt before, and I like it. It’s tarter than cow milk yogurt, but delish. I’ll see if this is gentler on my tummy than cow milk. If I don’t see any improvements, I’ll take all dairy (goat and sheep) out to see if that helps.
We’re not totally eliminating gluten and cow juice products, just significantly reducing them as an experiment. We’re trying to not consume any for at least 3-4 weeks, and then monitor any changes we experience when we do have some. It would be amazing if we felt better within a week or two, but I know these things take time and diligence, and this experiment is not the proper way to go about it. Even if gluten and cow dairy do not cause us any issues, I still believe that gluten grains are inflammatory and reducing them is a good idea for just about everyone. Besides, there are lots of other tasty grains and pseudo-grains out there that don’t contain gluten. When you’re avoiding gluten, you only have to avoid 4 little ole types of grains (and oats with cross-contamination). Everything else is fair game! But it’s a little more complicated when you’re avoiding cow milk and gluten. They seem to add whey to everything.
That’s ok, I’m a skilled shopper and restaurant menu-stalker.
I already checked out Chipotle’s menu—impressive for the gluten-free crowd. Our closest one is 75 miles away, though. Bummer.
Confession: I still have about 10 fruit kebobs from Dustin’s party. We kept them at home for ourselves. *giggles*
The heat is coming back – nooooooooooooo!
Wednesday and Thursday: High of 92F and 93F degrees.
Not looking forward to this. At all. We’re experiencing August weather in June. Yuck! My worst seasonal nightmare: No spring or fall, just hot and cold and an AC that doesn’t cool off the house. Apparently our slumlord landlady knows that it’s not a legal requirement to fix the AC in NY state and takes full advantage of that. We’re excellent tenants that take care of their property as if it’s our own, plus we have never asked for anything to be fixed or complained about anything. They should be thankful and WANT to take care of their property, but I guess it’s just not that important to them. No problem, we’re not sweating it (no pun intended). We’ll survive—no, thrive, actually. This will just motivate us to buy sooner than later. Sucks that the real estate market is so dry around here, though. Houses are under water, which means a very limited selection for us. And what is for sale is reasonable, BUT the taxes are insane. The last house we were really interested in, the taxes were $14,500/year, but the house dropped in value when the market adjusted, so the tax rate is disproportional with the home value. And towns are in no hurry to lower the taxes. It’s a nightmare for home owners and potential buyers.
I think I’ll go call my favorite real estate agent. That will perk me up a little.
Then, time to work and think about what gluten-free meal to have next. I already have an idea—LOTS of ideas! Be back later.
