My Blog’s Day Off

by J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on January 29, 2012

Apparently Dream Host was having issues from last night until just a little while ago and many sites, including mine, have been down since last night. My apologies to anyone who could not load my blog today! I’m glad that it’s back up now, but down for nearly 24 hours? Not good! If there was anything I could have done to fix the issue, I assure you I would have done so immediately. It took awhile to get a response from DreamHost, so I had no idea why it was down either. Let’s hope it’s 100% resolved now!

Yesterday, on Dustin’s “day off,” he cut out stencils that we’re going to use for a Ron Paul project. And no, (sadly) it’s not a pink project, heh.

Then, we went to Middletown to pick up a “few” things from Hannaford. One of my favorite aisles in that store is the one with the clearance items. They offer a lot of great stuff that’s just a few weeks “out of season,” like Christmas baking supplies, but they usually have expiration dates that are pretty far off.

I scored some neat items this time: Enormous 10.58 oz Lindt chocolate bricks bars for $3/each and a bag of Bob’s Red Mill xanthan gum (gluten-free) for only $2.75!

I searched online and the cheapest I could find Bob’s Red Mill xanthan gum was for $11/8 oz bag on the company’s web site; so $2.75 is a steal!

I got 4 bars of bittersweet Lindt chocolate, and one milk chocolate (Dustin’s choice). I love that the bittersweet is dairy-free, which is fantastic. One more way for me to reduce dairy in my life, I’m all for it.

I can use the bittersweet for so many goodies; chocolate-covered… anything! Or I could chop it into chunks and put it in cookies or muffins or ice cream or… anything! hehe Pretty excited about it. Open-mouthed smile

We stopped at Panera Bread to pick up something quick for dinner. I went with their tuna salad on three cheese bread…

Dustin hasn’t eaten land animals in over a month now. He has taken on a pescetarian diet, which means the only meat he eats is seafood, so we have been eating a lot of seafood this month, which I love! I like this way of eating and will elaborate on it in future posts.

It came with a dill pickle spear and we both chose apples for our side item, but we don’t eat them because they’re kind of funky, lol. We feed them to the birds and whatever animals want to nibble on them.

I’ve never had a bad sandwich from Panera Bread! Everything they make is SO tasty! Mainly the bread. Winking smile The tuna salad is a mayo bomb, but it still tasted good and I’d order it again. Their tap water on the other hand… BLEK! Tastes awful at the Middletown store. Sick smile

I just ate a bunch of crisp red grapes; they’re on sale at Shop Rite so I picked some up today and now my tummy hurts from the little fructose bomb I just inhaled, lol. So yummy, though! Grapes MUST be crisp or I won’t eat them. Mushy grapes = GROSS

Off to go see what’s on Tivo and put fresh clean sheets on the bed. I’m a huge fan of freshly scented, clean sheets, so I try to wash and change them at least 3-4x a week – how about you?

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Here’s to a great week ahead. Smile

ETA: Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes for mom! Red heart She’s doing better but still not back to full health. She’s complaining of her head pain returning again today. She’s seeing a rheumatologist on Tuesday, and hopefully will get an appointment with her new PCP (primary) by mid-week. Hopefully we’ll know more by the end of this week. She’s in good spirits, but understandably bored and frustrated with bed rest. She keeps trying to do more than she should, and I think it’s contributing to her symptoms worsening. We need a baby monitor AND some straps to hold her in place. She’s a feisty one! Be right back

‘Tis the Season… for Tuna

Its been quite the week. Tuesday: We saw a matinee of Breaking Dawn and I had to practice some serious restraint during the honeymoon bedroom scene. I found it to be hilarious and I literally had to bite my lip to keep from laughing. The whole storyline is pretty silly, but the 13-year-old girl in [...]

Last night, Dustin and I went on a double-date with Tricia and her new beau, Pito. We were headed to Kingston to do some shopping, but made a pit-stop in New Paltz to have a drink. Dustin and I typically don’t drink anymore, and he was driving, so he had a ginger ale, but I [...]

Gluten-free, Ghee, and Me

No gluten or cow juice products yesterday and I’m still alive! lol Honestly, it was no problem at all. I’ve done experiments like this before, so I’m accustomed to the process of avoiding the big G. And as I type this, I just had a panicky moment. I ate Udi’s gluten-free breads yesterday and it [...]

Making Tuna Salad in a House Full of Kitties

March 24, 2011 Jenneral Posts

Have you ever tried it? LOL Their little noses smell it from Jupiter! But our cats don’t particularly care for the actual tuna, they just go crazy for the tuna juice. So, when I made tuna salad last night, guess who was there to help take care of the excess juice? Our other 2 kitties [...]

How Very Cherry {Cherry Almond Salad}

March 8, 2011 Intermittent Fasting

Remember when we had lunch at Panera Bread a few months ago? Well, I do. I never forget a flavor that I like. I really liked the cherry-flavored dressing on their Orchard Harvest salad; it was a great combination of sweet and sour that complemented everything else. It took some searching, but I finally located [...]

Intermittent Fasting Day 6: Six Hour Window

January 30, 2011 Intermittent Fasting

I can consume a good amount of calories in a six hour window! I’ve been in a deficit all week, so I don’t care that much that I splurged on Saturday other than the sodium. I consider it one of my high-cal days, which is no big deal when you naturally calorie cycle and aim [...]

The Days in Between

December 21, 2010 Jenneral Posts

Life presents a lot of opportunities throughout the year to overdo it and not make the healthiest choices, and let’s face it: Thanksgiving to January 2nd is like the speed round! It doesn’t help when you have a birthday smack dab in the middle of that time frame like I do. But then there’s all [...]

My 31st Birthday

December 12, 2010 Holidays

Happy birthday, to me!!! I decided to postpone my party until next week. My mom has a sinus infection, so I’d rather wait for her to feel better, not to mention waiting for this yucky weather to pass by. My birthday almost always brings wintery weather with it. One more downside to having a birthday [...]
